Hyderabad weather - heavy wind and rain alerts

Hyderabad, September 1, 2024  The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Red, Orange, and Yellow alerts for all districts of Telangana, signaling severe weather conditions. The unprecedented rainfall has significantly impacted normal life across the state.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are on standby in Hyderabad and Vijayawada, ready for deployment in case of emergencies.

The state government has mandated the creation of control rooms in every district collector's office, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the state secretariat to manage the crisis effectively.

 District administrations have been instructed to appoint officers to oversee and manage the situation with overflowing streams.

 Due to the heavy rain forecast and red alert for Hyderabad district, all primary and secondary schools will remain closed on September 2 to ensure student safety.

The state government has advised measures to prevent tank contamination and ensure proper chlorination to avoid disease outbreaks.

Hyderabad is expected to experience moderate to heavy rain or thunderstorms over the next 48 hours, with surface winds reaching 30-40 km/h.

Authorities urge parents and guardians to stay updated with weather warnings and prioritize their children's safety during this period.

 A proactive plan has been developed to evacuate people from flood-prone areas and set up relief camps for those affected.

The state has issued a high alert to officials in the irrigation department, advising them to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions without leaving their headquarters.
